Barack Obama has made a surprising marriage admission regarding his relationship with Michelle Obama.
Barack and Michelle Obama celebrated their marriage in 1992, and their journey together reached a new chapter when they moved into the White House in 2009. They remained there until 2017, following Barack’s two terms as president.
Over the years, the couple has been open about the challenges they faced, with Barack acknowledging that his presidency put a strain on their relationship. Despite the public scrutiny and rumors, including unfounded speculation about divorce, the Obamas have weathered it all together. Recently, the 44th president appeared at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, on April 4, where he discussed a range of topics, including his perspective on Donald Trump’s tariffs.
At 63 years old, Barack Obama revealed that he’s currently putting the finishing touches on the second half of his presidential memoirs. During a recent appearance, he also took the opportunity to address America’s gun laws and express his views on the subject.
While speaking with College President Steven Tepper, Obama gave an insight into his marriage with Michelle, admitting, “I was in a deep deficit with my wife. So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.”
Michelle, never one to shy away from talking about their relationship, has also shared some lighthearted observations over the years. On her podcast IMO, she revealed one particular quirk of Barack’s that she had to learn to navigate. “Barack, you know, he had to adjust to what ‘on time’ was for me,” she said, adding with a laugh, “Because he was on that island time.”
Michelle Obama humorously shared how her husband’s approach to time often caused some tension during their busy schedules. “You know, I’ve got this husband who, when it’s time to leave at 3, he’s just getting up and heading to the bathroom,” she explained. “I was like, dude, a 3 o’clock departure means you’ve already done all that! Don’t start looking for your glasses at the last minute.”
Despite the occasional last-minute rush, Michelle acknowledged that Barack’s punctuality has definitely improved over the years. In fact, she noted that their daughters, Malia and Sasha, have learned the value of being early when they’re going anywhere with her.
However, it seems Obama’s time management was still a bit off during his time in the White House. In 2014, the Washington Post reported that he had been more than 35 hours late to scheduled engagements during his presidency, making it clear that even the Commander-in-Chief isn’t immune to the occasional time trouble!
