Grimes Opens Up About Her Recent Diagnosis—What She Shared

Elon Musk’s Ex Grimes Reveals New Diagnosis – Details

Shortly after pleading with her rich ex to attend to a medical emergency concerning their child, the 37-year-old musician revealed a personal illness.

In a recent, heartfelt post on X, musician Grimes—whose real name is Claire Boucher—opened up about her health journey, sharing several neurodevelopmental diagnoses. On March 22, 2025, she shared, “I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD this year, and I’ve also recently discovered that I’m likely dyslexic, which explains why I can’t spell at all without spellcheck [sic].”

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), one of the conditions Grimes mentioned, is a developmental disorder marked by persistent patterns of impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention.

While it’s normal to experience occasional restlessness or distraction, individuals with ADHD exhibit these behaviors more consistently and across various settings—such as at work, school, and home—making daily tasks significantly more challenging.

Reflecting on her journey, Grimes, the “Nightmusic” singer, shared that if she had received her diagnosis earlier, many of her struggles and passionate pursuits might have been misinterpreted as “pathological.” She believes she might have resorted to medication sooner and potentially been less driven to push through obstacles. However, in hindsight, she’s proud of persevering on her own.

In addition to sharing her own experiences, Grimes took aim at a subculture of social media accounts focused on mental health. While some provide valuable support, she warned that others spread misleading information and act as “extreme infohazards,” undermining the well-being of their followers.

Grimes voiced concern over the growing trend of self-diagnosing mental health conditions without consulting professionals. She also noted how mental disorders can sometimes seem “contagious,” pointing out instances when she and her classmates would briefly develop similar symptoms after learning about different conditions in class. Reflecting on her own journey, Grimes shared that reading became one of the most effective ways for her to enhance focus and promote self-learning, helping her better manage the symptoms of ADHD.

“Some are great of course, but a lot of these seem like explicitly anti civilizational and geared towards making people worse [sic],” Grimes added as she wrapped up her article.

A month after she publicly pushed Elon Musk to act during their son’s medical emergency, the artist has been more forthcoming about her health.

Grimes claimed in now-deleted tweets on X on February 20 that her ex-boyfriend, who is also the father of her three children, had ignored her calls because of a “medical crisis.”

“I am sorry to do this publicly, but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation,” Grimes, the “Genesis” singer, reportedly wrote. “This needs to be addressed right away. Please assign or recruit someone who can speak with me if you don’t want to, so that we can continue working to find a solution. Elon, this is urgent.”

She further added, “I’m not giving any details, but he has missed every meeting and won’t respond to texts, calls, or emails. If he doesn’t respond as soon as possible, our child will suffer lifelong impairment.” Grimes emphasized, “I need him to [expletive] respond, and if I have to apply public pressure, then I guess that’s where we are at.” [sic]

However, Grimes did not specify which of her children required help. She and Elon Musk have three children: a daughter, Exa Dark Siderael, age three, and two sons, X Æ A-Xii, age four, and Techno Mechanicus, age two.

The plea was later deleted, but Elon Musk, 53, the CEO of SpaceX, did not respond. Since then, Grimes has published a series of posts on X, which led some users to wonder if her account had been shadowbanned when they were unable to view her earlier posts. Others were puzzled as to why she hadn’t left any comments on the Musk-owned platform. Grimes explained the next day that she was removing her posts because if they were being shadowbanned and not generating any response, it would only result in a media circus at the expense of her children.

The performer and the billionaire businessman, who dated from 2018 to 2022, had previously experienced disagreements. In February 2025, Musk took their son, X Æ A-Xii, to the Oval Office to explain the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during a media briefing with President Donald Trump. Musk wore a dark ensemble, accessorized with a matching “Make America Great Again” cap and a long black coat. X Æ A-Xii, who stood confidently beside his father, wore a gold chain, a beige overcoat, and a navy blue outfit.

Musk and Trump, seated at the Resolute Desk in dark suits, appeared amused by the young boy’s presence. After seeing an X user post about the event, Grimes revealed that she was unaware her ex-partner had made their child’s appearance public. She responded on X, stating, “He shouldn’t be in public like this. I appreciate you letting me know because I didn’t see this. But at least he was courteous. Sigh.”

Her tweet quickly sparked a wave of reactions from social media users. One fan expressed concern: “No, he shouldn’t be. Girl, you have to get tough. He’s your baby, not Elon’s pet.” Another commenter said, “I wish he was with you and his siblings every time I see him. He’s a wonderful person, but I’m concerned about his safety and influence. Is there anything you can do? His use of X in that manner is really unsettling.”

Many others supported Grimes, with one person commenting, “She’s absolutely right, he’s a child, not a prop!!” Another shared similar sentiments, saying, “I’m actually with her on this one lol.”

One admirer praised Grimes for her dedication to safeguarding her child’s privacy, saying, “Yes mommy, take control of your baby!” Meanwhile, another social media user responded with, “Was expecting something like this!” without surprise. A third commenter expressed support for Grimes, stating, “She’s protecting her child. It is not necessary to include the child in the show that is taking place.”

Since their breakup, Grimes has been focused on creating distance from Elon Musk. In 2020, when they welcomed their son, X Æ A-Xii, Musk shared a photo of himself holding the baby wrapped in a hospital blanket, marking one of the few public moments the couple allowed their personal life to be shared with the world.
