The spark for her investigation? A 2017 report by economist Mark Skidmore from Michigan State University, which raised alarm over $6.5 trillion in unaccounted military spending in fiscal year 2015. This “unsupported” spending was more than 50 times the total authorized budget for the U.S. Army, igniting concerns over a potential government cover-up. With such massive discrepancies, Fitts knew she had to dig deeper.
