Kim Kardashian’s bid to buy a family heirloom which belonged to her late father was rejected by OJ Simpson’s estate.

A recent attempt by Keeping Up with the Kardashians star to purchase a sentimental item from O.J. Simpson’s belongings ended in rejection after the estate executor denied the request.

The item in question had belonged to Robert Kardashian Sr., the famed defense attorney and close friend of Simpson before and after the infamous 1994 murders of Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman, as well as the highly publicized trial that followed.

Robert Kardashian Sr. was not only a close friend but also a key member of O.J. Simpson’s legal team, which famously secured Simpson’s acquittal in the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. However, Simpson was later found liable in a civil trial and ordered to pay damages to the victims’ families.

Despite Simpson’s acquittal, public opinion has long regarded him as guilty, especially after the dramatic police car chase that took place while authorities were attempting to bring him in for questioning about his involvement in the murders.

The day after Simpson’s arrest, Kardashian Sr. gifted him a Bible inscribed with a heartfelt message. Dated June 18, 1994, the note read: “O.J., this book will help. God loves and he will speak to you with his words. Read this book every day. God has a definite plan for your life. You are his child, and he will use you again. I love you, and God loves you.”

Robert Kardashian Sr., who passed away in 2003 from esophageal cancer when Kim was just 22, is often credited as the driving force behind her decision to pursue a legal career.

The Bible, which is now being auctioned, is part of his estate being sold to pay off debts after his death last year. Kim offered $15,000 for the item, but her offer was rejected by O.J. Simpson’s estate executor, Malcolm LaVergne. According to LaVergne, the legal fees to sell the Bible outside of the auction would cost just as much, making the transaction unfeasible.

He explained to The Mirror: “The amount is why I had no choice, because why would I spend $15,000 of estate money — why would I spend $15,000 in attorney’s fees — to sell it to Kim for $15,000? That’s a zero-sum game. That’s a bad business model. If Kim had offered $150,000 for it, we would’ve been in court getting this approved outside of the auction.”

While Kim Kardashian’s $15,000 offer for the Bible has raised some eyebrows online, many people have pointed out that she is more than wealthy enough to pay a higher price. One user on Reddit commented: “Isn’t she a billionaire? What a lowball offer.”

In response, the estate executor, Malcolm LaVergne, remarked, “Kim can bid on it online. She may even get it cheaper than the 15 grand, so who knows.”

In her 2020 Oxygen documentary, Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project, Kim reflected on how her legal work has deepened her connection to her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr. She shared, “There are times when I could be frustrated and studying really late and have to get up and wonder how he did it, having four kids and must’ve been going through some of the same things that I have gone through. So it would have been exciting to talk to him about that, and I know that he would be so, so proud.”
