After sharing a thread detailing his visit to Ukraine, a US Senator was labelled a ‘traitor’ by Elon Musk
A US Senator has hit back at Elon Musk after the Tesla founder dubbed him a ‘traitor’ for visiting Ukraine recently.
Since Donald Trump assumed office in January, America’s relationship with Ukraine has taken a dramatic turn for the worse.
In a tense meeting, the Republican president accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of “gambling with World War 3” and slashed military aid to the European nation. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, heading the Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE) within the Trump Administration, has also voiced sharp criticism of Ukraine.
Adding to the ongoing diplomatic tension, Democrat Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona recently made a visit to Ukraine, amid the mounting discussions surrounding a potential peace deal with Russia.

Senator Mark Kelly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts after his recent trip to Ukraine:
“Just left Ukraine. What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people. Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin. Finally, if we stand with Ukraine, they will be there for us. This country has a fighting spirit and a depth of experience and kickassness unmatched anywhere in the world today. These are the people you want in your corner. My goal in the Senate is and will continue to be to keep us out of wars.”
While Kelly emphasized his desire to keep America out of the conflict, he also stated that if the roles were reversed and the war were on U.S. soil, his first call would be to the Ukrainian people. He underscored the importance of supporting Ukraine during its critical moment of need.
However, his comments sparked backlash from Elon Musk, who accused Kelly of being a “traitor”. Musk’s sharp criticism followed Kelly’s detailed account of his trip and his growing advocacy for continued U.S. support of Ukraine.

The tension between Senator Mark Kelly and Elon Musk escalated after Musk’s surprising comment calling Kelly a “traitor.” Kelly swiftly fired back with a sharp response:
“Traitor? Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.”
This exchange comes amid Musk’s ongoing issues with X, his social media platform. The site experienced a ‘massive cyber attack’ on March 10, causing significant glitches and intermittent service outages throughout the day. Musk speculated that the attack was likely the result of a coordinated effort by a large group, possibly from an entire country. He further claimed that IP addresses related to the attack could be traced back to regions near Ukraine, adding fuel to the fire of the already tense situation.
