SNL sparks debate after taking aim at President Zelenskyy and Donald Trump meeting

The cast of Saturday Night Live wasted no time in poking fun at Friday’s meeting between President Zelenskyy and Donald Trump

A skit on last night’s Saturday Night Live has raised some eyebrows.

The cast wasted no time diving into one of the most talked-about moments of the week: the explosive meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on February 28.

The encounter quickly escalated during their tense exchange in the Oval Office, where Vice President Vance was also present. Trump, visibly displeased, seemed to take issue with Zelenskyy’s choice of attire — notably, the Ukrainian leader’s decision to not wear a suit, which led to a pointed grilling by an American reporter.

The drama didn’t stop there. Vice President Vance didn’t hold back, calling out Zelenskyy for not showing enough gratitude to both the US and Trump, accusing them of doing everything they could to help save his country. The meeting turned into a whirlwind of political tension, setting the stage for what promises to be a continued diplomatic clash.

Following the frenzy of headlines surrounding the Zelenskyy-Trump meeting, SNL couldn’t resist poking fun at the chaos with a hilarious reenactment. The skit, dripping with SNL’s signature humor, featured Mikey Day as Zelenskyy, Bowen Yang as Vice President Vance, and James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump.

But the comedy didn’t stop there. SNL alum Mike Myers also made a surprise return, playing Elon Musk, adding his own eccentric twist to the sketch.

In typical SNL fashion, the segment was full of zingers. The cast joked that the meeting went “really, really well”, with Johnson humorously introducing himself as the “CEO of the Gaza Hotel,” riffing on the Republican party’s outlandish idea to transform the war-torn region into a version of Mar-A-Lago. The sketch had everyone laughing at the absurdity of real-life politics — all with a satirical edge.

The fake Trump didn’t hold back either, telling the fictional Zelenskyy to relay a message to Vladimir Putin: “Tell him how much you loved him and you’re sorry” for the war — a line that had the audience howling.

In a nod to Vance’s real-life comments about Zelenskyy’s apparent lack of gratitude, Yang (as Vance) delivered the zinger: “You haven’t said thank you for the past 15 seconds since I’ve been yelling at you!” The whole skit was packed with political jabs wrapped in humor, making for a memorable segment.

Reactions to the skit flooded social media, with fans showering praise on the cast’s performance. One viewer gushed, “Mike Myers as Elon Musk is absolutely hilarious. I haven’t laughed this hard at an SNL sketch in years.” Another added, “Hahah this is hilarious,” and someone else chimed in, calling the sketch “perfect.”

As the buzz continued, another fan raved, “This is pure comedic genius.” Clearly, SNL nailed it once again, blending timely humor with sharp political commentary.

While many were in stitches, others pointed out that the skit hit too close to reality. “Very funny… except it’s mostly true, which strikes fear in my heart,” one person remarked, acknowledging the unsettling similarities between the sketch and real-life events.

Another viewer quipped, “This is hilarious, to think there’s literally no difference between what happened and an SNL skit,” highlighting the eerie overlap between satire and actual political turmoil.

However, not everyone was amused. Some found the sketch too controversial. “Am I the only one who doesn’t find this funny at all?” one person questioned, while another added, “Oh my god, this is so utterly disrespectful. These people are insane.” It seems the line between comedy and reality was a bit too thin for some.
