Russia issues statement after Donald Trump pauses all US military aid to Ukraine

A Kremlin spokesperson has released a statement following the ‘main supplier of this war so far’ – the US – pausing military aid to Ukraine

A spokesperson for the Kremlin has released a statement responding to Donald Trump pausing all US military aid to Ukraine and his ‘desire to bring peace’.

U.S. Freezes Military Aid to Ukraine Following Tense White House Meeting

Just days after a heated confrontation between U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, the Biden administration has announced a sudden pause on military aid to Ukraine.

During his February 28 visit to the White House, Zelenskyy was met with unexpected hostility rather than diplomatic support. Vance accused him of disrespecting both the U.S. and President Trump, insisting that he should be thanking the president instead of making demands. The exchange escalated further when Trump himself intervened, delivering a stern warning to the Ukrainian leader.

“You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards… You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people! You’re gambling with World War Three!” Trump declared.

On March 3, a White House official confirmed the pause in U.S. military aid to Ukraine, stating that the administration is “reviewing our support to ensure it contributes to a solution.”

“The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well,” the statement added.

This decision marks a significant shift in U.S. policy, leaving Ukraine’s future support from Washington uncertain—and sending shockwaves across the global political stage.

Kremlin Reacts as U.S. Freezes Military Aid to Ukraine

Following the U.S. decision to pause military aid to Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has responded, suggesting that this move could push Kyiv toward peace negotiations.

Speaking to Reuters, Peskov stated: “If this is true, then this is a decision that can really encourage the Kyiv regime to (come to) the peace process.”

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three years ago, the U.S. has supplied approximately $65.9 billion in military aid, according to the State Department. However, with Washington now reconsidering its role, Peskov pointed out the significance of the shift, saying:

“It is obvious that the United States has been the main supplier of this war so far. If the United States stops being (an arms supplier) or suspends these supplies, it will probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace.”

While acknowledging Trump’s stated commitment to peace, Peskov remained cautious, adding: “We hear his statement about his desire to bring peace to Ukraine, and this is welcome. We see certain things and receive certain information about the proposed actions in this direction. This is also welcome. But we will continue to see how the situation develops in reality.”

With the U.S. stepping back, uncertainty looms over the future of the Russia-Ukraine war, and all eyes are now on how Kyiv, Moscow, and the international community will react to this major policy shift.
