President Zelenskyy insists he wanted one thing from meeting where Trump accused him of ‘gambling with World War 3’

President Zelenskyy has reflected on his chaotic discussions with Donald Trump last week, and shared what his intention of the meeting was.

While the Oscars may have dominated headlines last night, the buzz surrounding Zelenskyy’s fiery encounter with Trump refuses to die down.

The two leaders met in Washington on Friday (February 28), but their discussions quickly spiraled into chaos. From Zelenskyy’s wardrobe choices sparking debate to Trump’s explosive accusation that the Ukrainian president was “gambling with World War 3,” the tension was palpable.

The meeting ended abruptly, with Zelenskyy leaving early and the White House forced to cancel a scheduled press conference—hardly a diplomatic success.

Now, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is urging Zelenskyy to mend fences with Trump. But the Ukrainian leader didn’t linger in the U.S. for long. He swiftly flew to the UK, where he met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles. Unlike his tense exchange with Trump, Zelenskyy’s meeting with Starmer was a success, with the British PM reaffirming the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine.

Before departing London on March 2, Zelenskyy addressed lingering questions about his meeting with Trump. Speaking to reporters at Stansted Airport, he made his stance clear: “I just want the Ukrainian position to be heard.”

“We want our partners to remember who the aggressor is in this war,” he continued, as reported by Mail Online. “We need peace, not endless war.”

He went on to stress the importance of a unified European stance:

“In the near future, all of us in Europe will shape our common positions—the lines we must achieve and the lines we cannot compromise on. These positions will be presented to our partners in the United States.”

As tensions mount on the global stage, all eyes are now on how Zelenskyy navigates these high-stakes diplomatic waters.

“The reason I say that—beyond the economic benefits Ukraine will gain—is that it will also solidify the United States’ stake in Ukraine’s future,” Mandelson explained. “With U.S. commercial interests and individual citizens actively involved on the ground, it creates an even stronger incentive for America to safeguard Ukraine and prevent future conflict.”

He emphasized, “That’s the outcome I want to see—that’s the outcome we all want to see.”

Mandelson was referring to a proposed deal in which the U.S. and Ukraine would jointly invest in Ukraine’s critical minerals and other valuable resources, a move that could reshape both nations’ strategic and economic ties.
