People are just learning what CVS actually stands for and it’s blown their minds

Ever wondered what the acronym CVS stands for in CVS Pharmacy?

TikTok has become home to all sorts of handy hacks, interesting stories and funny clips, but it’s also a place for learning.

One fascinating educational video delves into the origin of the acronym “CVS,” shedding light on the real meaning behind the name of the beloved and ubiquitous CVS Pharmacy. Founded in Lowell, Massachusetts, CVS has grown into the largest pharmacy chain in the U.S., with an impressive 9,674 locations across the country by the end of 2022.

However, when the company first opened its doors on May 8, 1963, it went by a much longer, and now largely forgotten, name—one that most people may not even recognize today.

When CVS Pharmacy first opened, it was originally known by the full name “Consumer Value Store.” But just one year later, in 1964, the name was shortened to CVS—something that many of us are now much more familiar with.

This fun fact was recently brought to light by TikToker Nisa (@nisipisa), who casually shared this revelation with her followers. She said, “I got this dry mouth spray from ‘Consumer Value Stores,’ and the experience of using it is kind of like someone who’s in the middle of chewing gum spitting into your mouth.”

Naturally, this sparked a wave of humorous comments from her followers. One TikToker was left perplexed, asking, “Consumer Value Stores?!!?” Another person jokingly wrote, “She did not deadname CVS.”

One commenter added, “The casual use of CVS’ government name,” while another said, “The government name was so unnecessary but so funny.”

And one user ended with a relatable confession: “And today was the day I found out what CVS actually stood for…”

In fact, the revelation about CVS’ acronym even shocked some former employees of the pharmacy chain. One commented, “Wait, I worked at CVS and had no idea it was actually an acronym!”

But CVS isn’t the only store acronym that has left shoppers stunned. Another popular brand that has baffled people is the iconic M&M candy.

These small, colorful chocolates are a beloved snack, yet many have long wondered what the M&M stands for. Created in 1941, M&M’s are named after the two founders: ‘Mars’ for Forrest E. Mars Sr., and ‘Murrie’ for Bruce Murrie, the duo behind the famous candy company.
