Trudeau got reflective on the future of Canada
Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau got reflective on what the future of Canada could be like as he made his final speech.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fought back tears as he delivered a heartfelt farewell speech at the Liberal Party conference on Sunday, March 9.
Trudeau stepped down on January 6 after facing months of mounting domestic challenges that significantly eroded his popularity. However, before officially leaving office, he made a bold final move—announcing Canada’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods. This was a direct response to the U.S. implementing similar trade restrictions against Canada.

As the trade tensions between Canada and the United States continue to escalate, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reflected on the challenges ahead for his country during his emotional farewell speech at the Liberal Party conference.
“Now these past years, these past 10 years, have been challenging — crisis after crisis has been thrown at Canadians,” Trudeau said, his voice heavy with emotion. “But through every crisis, Canadians have shown who they are. We’ve pulled together. We’ve stood up for each other. And every single time, we’ve emerged even stronger.”
Addressing the ongoing trade war, Trudeau rallied his fellow citizens, declaring: “Now, as Canadians face — from our neighbor — an existential challenge, an economic crisis, Canadians are showing exactly what we are made of! Canadians are showing what it is that makes us Canadians — not by defining ourselves by who we’re not, but by proudly embracing who we are. And we’re a country that will be diplomatic when we can, but fight when we must — elbows up.”
Trudeau’s successor, Mark Carney — the former head of the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada — took to the stage shortly after. In his speech, Carney delivered a pointed message aimed at Donald Trump, making it clear that Canada has no intention of becoming America’s “51st state,” despite remarks made by certain Republican politicians and their supporters in recent months.

In a powerful and defiant speech, Mark Carney, Canada’s newly appointed Prime Minister, delivered a bold message aimed directly at the United States.
“America is not Canada,” Carney declared. “And Canada never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape, or form.”
He continued with unwavering resolve: “We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. The Americans want our resources, our water, our land — our country. Think about it. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life.”
Acknowledging the difficult road ahead, Carney urged Canadians to remain united. “I know these are dark days — dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust,” he said. “We’re getting over the shock, but let us never forget the lessons: we have to look after ourselves, and we have to look out for each other. We need to pull together in the tough days ahead.”
His words resonated with determination, reinforcing Canada’s commitment to defending its identity, sovereignty, and future.
