Donald Trump had a confusing message for the ‘incredible people’ of Greenland during his speech at Congress
Greenland has hit back at Donald Trump’s claims he will take their land ‘one way or the other’ despite claiming the territory’s population are ‘incredible people’.
Trump Reveals Putin’s “Strong Signals” for Peace, Extends Bold Offer to Greenland
During his March 4 address to Congress, President Donald Trump made a striking revelation—Vladimir Putin has sent “strong signals” to the U.S. indicating a potential path to peace amid the ongoing war in Europe. He also disclosed receiving a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though details on its contents remain sparse.
But perhaps the most unexpected moment of the night came when Trump turned his attention to Greenland with an open invitation:
“If you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America.”
He emphasized the strategic importance of Greenland, making a case for why it should become part of the U.S.:
“We need Greenland for national security and even international security. And we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But we need it really for international world security.”
The bold statement left many wondering—is Trump reviving his ambition to acquire Greenland? While the proposal may seem unusual, it underscores his administration’s focus on expanding U.S. influence and strengthening global security.

Trump Doubles Down on Greenland, PM Fires Back: “Greenland Is Ours”
In a bold and unexpected move, President Donald Trump extended an open invitation to Greenland during his March 4 address to Congress, suggesting the island could become part of the United States. However, his remarks quickly shifted from diplomatic overture to assertive determination:
“I think we’re going to get it—one way or the other, we’re going to get it.”
He assured Greenlanders of the supposed benefits of U.S. integration, promising:
“We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.”
Trump further emphasized the island’s strategic importance, calling it a “very large piece of land” that is “very, very important for military security.”
But Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede wasted no time shutting down the proposal with a swift, ten-word response:
“We do not wish to be Americans. Greenland is ours.”
Egede doubled down, reinforcing Greenland’s sovereignty:
“We do not want to be Americans, nor Danes. We are Greenlanders.”
With this firm rejection, Greenland has made its stance crystal clear—despite Trump’s ambitions, the island is not for sale, trade, or annexation.

Greenland Rejects Trump’s Push for U.S. Takeover: “We Are Not for Sale”
Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has delivered a firm and final message to Donald Trump and his administration following the president’s repeated claims that the island should join the United States.
“The Americans and their leaders must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot just be taken. Our future is decided by us in Greenland.”
The statement comes in response to Trump’s renewed push to acquire the territory, which has been part of the Danish Kingdom since the 18th century.
Trump Doubles Down: “I Think We’re Going to Have It”
Back in January, following what was described as a “fiery” call with Denmark’s Prime Minister, Trump told reporters he was confident Greenland would eventually become part of the U.S.
“I think we’re going to have it. I think the people want to be with us.”
Dismissing Denmark’s long-standing claim over the region, he suggested it would be “unfriendly” of them to stand in the way.
“I don’t really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t allow that to happen because it’s for the protection of the free world.”
Trump framed Greenland’s potential U.S. takeover as a matter of global security rather than national expansion.
“I think Greenland, we’ll get because it has to do with freedom of the world. It has nothing to do with the United States other than that we’re the one that can provide the freedom. They can’t.”
With Greenland’s leadership standing firm, it’s clear that despite Trump’s determination, this is a battle the U.S. isn’t winning anytime soon.
