Elon Musk says Ukraine ‘needs an election’ as Trump reportedly holds ‘secret talks’ with Zelensky opposition

Both Musk and Trump have accused Zelensky of being a ‘dictator’

Elon Musk has stirred up controversy by suggesting that Ukraine “needs an election” following reports that former President Donald Trump is allegedly holding “secret talks” with Ukrainian opposition leaders in an attempt to push for an election to take place.

The tension reached a boiling point during a meeting last Friday (February 28) at the White House, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was reportedly escorted off the premises after a heated exchange with Trump’s team.

In a bold move, Trump’s close ally took to his own social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to claim that a Ukrainian election would result in Zelensky losing “by a landslide.” This dramatic statement has sparked a fresh wave of speculation and controversy surrounding the ongoing political turmoil in Ukraine.

Musk reignited the debate by reposting a tweet from a Conservative account that claimed, “Trump’s team has met with key Ukrainian opposition leaders to discuss holding emergency elections to replace Zelensky. Regime change may be the only path to peace, avoiding a global war.”

In his response, Musk boldly stated, “Ukraine needs to hold an election. Zelensky would lose by a landslide.”

The tweet quickly sparked a flurry of responses on X, with many users voicing their disagreement. One person shot back, “As soon as Russia pulls out of their territory and stops bombing their hotels and apartment buildings. How’s that sound?” Another user questioned, “Just a curiosity: who elected you?” while a third pointed out, “Ukraine’s constitution doesn’t allow elections during wartime. The US has no right to interfere with another country’s elections.”

Musk’s comments have only added fuel to the already heated discourse surrounding Ukraine’s political future and international influence in the ongoing conflict.

Reports have surfaced that four senior members of the Trump administration have secretly met with Ukrainian opposition leaders to discuss the possibility of holding a snap election in the country. Trump has gone as far as calling President Zelensky a “dictator” for not holding an election, despite the fact that Ukrainian law prohibits elections under martial law, which is currently in effect.

Speaking with The Telegraph, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko of the People’s Deputy of Ukraine expressed his concerns, saying that holding elections at this time is “physically impossible.” Goncharenko, though no fan of Zelensky, emphasized the critical security challenges, stating, “What would happen if voters were attacked? And it’s not just voting day—elections occur over a campaign, and that is simply impossible in our current situation.”

Musk has been outspoken in his criticism of Zelensky in recent months, labeling him “evil” on social media and accusing him of acting like a “dictator.” One of his posts read: “Either Zelensky holds an election to prove that he represents the will of the people, or he is a dictator.”

As tensions continue to rise, the debate over Ukraine’s political future grows more contentious, especially with international figures like Musk publicly weighing in.
