Musk Seeks ‘Wave of Impeachments’ For Federal Judges
As a result of recent court judgments that have hampered initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration, Elon Musk, who is the chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has called for a “wave of judicial impeachments.

Elon Musk took to his social media platform, X, to voice his strong opposition to a ruling by U.S. District Judge John Bates. The judge’s decision to reinstate government health datasets—previously removed—was met with sharp criticism from Musk, who accused Bates of having a conflict of interest.
According to Reuters, the ruling came in response to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump, which barred the government from promoting “gender ideology.” The progressive medical group Doctors for America challenged the dataset removal, arguing it violated federal law—a stance that ultimately swayed Judge Bates.

In a related case, Elon Musk called for the impeachment of another federal judge after a ruling that temporarily restricted DOGE’s access to Treasury Department data.
U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer issued a preliminary injunction barring the Department of the Treasury from sharing databases containing the personal financial information of millions of American consumers with DOGE. The ruling also mandated that DOGE destroy any such records obtained after January 20.
According to Press Press, President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over multiple judicial rulings, particularly those obstructing DOGE’s mission to identify and eliminate government inefficiencies. On Truth Social, he questioned the rationale behind court decisions that, in his view, force the government to make unnecessary payments despite clear evidence of fraud and waste. Trump criticized these rulings as a needless drain on time and taxpayer money.

In response to recent judicial rulings, some Republican lawmakers are taking action. Representative Eli Crane of Arizona has announced that he has drafted articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer.
The impeachment articles accuse Judge Engelmayer of obstructing the Treasury Department’s mandate by blocking DOGE’s access to critical Treasury Department systems. Crane’s move reflects growing GOP frustration with judicial decisions that they argue are undermining government efficiency and transparency.

FEC Chair Fights Back Against Trump’s Removal Effort
In a related development, Federal Election Commission (FEC) Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub is pushing back against President Trump’s attempt to remove her from office.
On January 31, Weintraub received a formal letter from the President notifying her of her removal from the commission, a position she has held since 2002. However, Weintraub is refusing to step down, setting the stage for a potential legal and political showdown over the independence of the FEC.

FEC Chair Challenges Legality of Trump’s Attempted Removal
Federal Election Commission (FEC) Chairwoman Ellen Weintraub has publicly denounced President Trump’s effort to remove her from office, arguing that the move is unconstitutional. She asserts that there is a lawful process for replacing FEC commissioners—one that, in her view, was not properly followed in this instance.
According to Politico, the Trump administration is aggressively advancing its policy agenda, and these developments underscore escalating tensions between the executive branch and the judiciary, as well as between the White House and independent government agencies.
