If you’re sipping on this drink daily, it could be the hidden culprit behind your accelerating hair loss.

For many men, the hairline is often seen as the ultimate symbol of strength—unless, of course, you’re rocking a confidently bald look (which the internet totally celebrates). But whether you’re embracing your hair status or not, a doctor is suggesting that one common habit might be causing you to lose more hair than you think.

Dr. Neena Chandrasekaran, a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, often shares health tips with her followers on social media. In a recent TikTok video on her Neenziemd page, she shared an alarming warning: one popular drink may be secretly contributing to hair loss.

She explained, “Things they don’t tell you part 384: Recent studies suggest sodas and energy drinks can contribute to hair loss and anxiety in men.”

Yes, that daily Red Bull or your favorite Coca-Cola could be causing your hairline to recede faster than you’d expect.

Dr. Chandrasekaran broke down how these drinks impact your body and why they may be fueling stress and even triggering more hair loss. “These drinks are often packed with sugar and additives that can throw off your hormonal balance, affecting your overall health,” she explained. “The high caffeine content boosts cortisol levels—the stress hormone—while excess sugar is linked to poor circulation and inflammation, which can weaken hair follicles and speed up hair loss.”

She continued: “The combination of increased cortisol and sugar not only triggers stress but also overstimulates the nervous system, adding to anxiety. This heightened stress state can then lead to more inflammation, which further contributes to hair loss.”

If you’ve noticed more hair shedding and rising anxiety, it might be time to ditch those sodas and energy drinks for good.

While the connection between sugary drinks and hair loss has sparked significant debate, it’s important to note that the link isn’t entirely conclusive, and the scientific community remains divided.

A research team from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, set out to explore the potential relationship between soda consumption and male pattern hair loss (MPHL). Their study highlighted that while multiple factors contribute to MPHL, Western diets—characterized by high sugar intake—may trigger polyol pathways, potentially contributing to hair loss.

However, Dr. Susan Massick, an associate professor of dermatology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, has urged caution in interpreting these findings, according to a Healthline report.

She clarified, “The study’s findings do not support the misleading conclusion that sugary beverages directly increase the risk of male pattern hair loss. While diet plays a crucial role in overall health, especially in relation to conditions like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, male-pattern hair loss is influenced by a variety of factors. This study doesn’t prove that indulging in sugar-sweetened drinks directly causes male pattern thinning.”
