Congressman proposes new $250 bill with Donald Trump’s face on it and reveals what it would look like

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson didn’t get the support he was expecting online

A Congressman has faced a bit of a backlash online after revealing his plans to have a Donald Trump dollar bill.

With Donald Trump back in the White House, many Republicans have been eager to show their support—none more so than South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson.

On February 25, Wilson took to Twitter to unveil a mock-up of a $250 bill featuring Trump’s face, sparking both excitement and debate. The bill, retaining its classic green design, prominently displays a full-color portrait of the former president.

“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump,” Wilson declared, signaling his determination to make this vision a reality.

“Bidenflation has wrecked the economy, forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for the most valuable President!” Wilson proclaimed.

While he may have anticipated overwhelming support, his proposal was met with mixed reactions. Many questioned whether this should be a legislative priority given the pressing challenges facing the country.

One user pushed back, commenting: “Really? I voted for Trump, but isn’t there more pressing issues at hand?”

Criticism continued to roll in, with some tying Wilson’s proposal to Elon Musk’s recent ultimatum demanding federal employees list five completed tasks per week.

One user quipped: “Did you fill out the five things you did last week? If this is on your agenda, it would seem you are expendable.”

Another mocked the practicality of a $250 bill, writing: “Starting to think this is a parody account. You think we carry $250 around? You are out of touch, Joe.”

Meanwhile, a particularly unimpressed commenter took a jab at inflation, sarcastically remarking: “Great idea! Now we have a large enough bill to pay for a single carton of eggs.”

As skepticism mounted, one user quipped, “Way things are going, in a month you’ll have to make a $470 bill.”

Another bluntly demanded, “How does this fix any of America’s problems? Now get to work on actual important stuff, Joe!”

Undeterred by the backlash, Wilson doubled down in a follow-up post, proudly unveiling a draft of the legislation.

“Grateful to introduce the DONALD J. TRUMP $250 BILL ACT. This big, beautiful bill will honor the 250th birthday of America and our most valuable President, Donald J. Trump!” he wrote.

Wilson also gave a nod to his cosponsors, tagging @RepHarshbarger, @RepRalphNorman, and @RepDarrellIssa, before closing with a patriotic flourish: “GOD BLESS AMERICA.”

Despite his enthusiasm, the criticism kept rolling in. Whether this bill gains traction remains to be seen, but who knows? Having a few Trumps in your back pocket might not be the worst thing.
