Five-Year-Old Hero Saves Family from Fire
A 5-year-old boy is being hailed as a true hero after he woke up to flames licking the walls next to his bed and ensured his entire family of nine escaped safely.
“I picked Lily up, got to the window with Lily, got the dog and got out,” Noah Woods told WSBTV. “That’s it.” But what Noah did went far beyond simple courage.
Early Sunday morning, an electrical fire broke out in the bedroom he shared with his two-year-old sister, Lily. Realizing the danger, Noah sprang into action—grabbing his sister and the family dog and making his way to the only available exit: the window.
Once safe, Noah didn’t stop there. He ran back inside to wake his uncle, helping ensure every family member could escape the blazing house. “Our hero!” the Bartow County Fire Department posted on Tuesday. “5-year-old Noah Woods woke up to find his bedroom on fire. He got himself and his 2-year-old sister out through a window, then re-entered the house to alert the rest of the family. Thankfully, all nine members escaped, and aside from a small burn on Noah’s wrist, no one was seriously hurt.”
Noah and four other family members were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. In recognition of his bravery, BCFD Chief Dwayne Jamison will honor Noah as an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and present him with a Lifesaving Award this Friday.

“If it wasn’t for Noah, I mean, we were all asleep, so we wouldn’t have known what was going on,” said David Woods, Noah’s grandfather. “We could’ve all lost our lives.”
Though the family’s home was destroyed in the fire, their most important possession—their lives—was saved thanks to Noah’s quick thinking and bravery. “If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today,” David wrote.
