A five-year-old boy is being celebrated as a true hero after bravely waking up to flames next to his bed on Sunday morning and ensuring his entire family of nine made it out safely. “I picked up Lily, got to the window with her, grabbed the dog, and got out,” Noah Woods, 5, told WSBTV. “That’s it.” But his actions went far beyond what his words might suggest.
An electrical fire erupted in the room Noah shared with his two-year-old sister, Lily. Realizing the imminent danger, he quickly grabbed his sister and the family dog, rushing them to the window for a safe escape.
Thanks to a GoFundMe campaign set up to support the family, we learned that once Noah, Lily, and their dog were safely out, Noah returned inside to alert his uncle and ensure the rest of the family escaped. “Our hero!” the Bartow County Fire Department praised on Tuesday. “Five-year-old Noah Woods woke up to find his bedroom on fire. With no other way out, he got himself and his 2-year-old sister out through the window to escape the flames, then re-entered the house to warn the rest of the family.”
Incredibly, all nine family members escaped unharmed, with Noah suffering only a minor burn on his wrist. Four other family members were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. As a result of his courageous actions, Noah will be honored on Friday by the Bartow County Fire Department. Chief Dwayne Jamison will recognize him as an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and present him with a Lifesaving Award.

“If it wasn’t for Noah, we were all asleep and wouldn’t have known what was happening,” David Woods, Noah’s grandfather, shared. “We could’ve lost our lives.” The Woods family is now faced with the heartbreaking task of rebuilding their home, which was completely destroyed in the fire, but at least they’ll be doing so with every family member safe by their side.
“If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today,” David wrote, his gratitude clear.
