Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been ordered to pay more than $54,000 in legal fees for violating Georgia’s Open Records Act. The penalty stems from her failure to provide requested documents to Ashleigh Merchant, the attorney representing Michael Roman, a co-defendant in the Trump election case.
A judge condemned Willis’ office for demonstrating “open hostility” and a “lack of good faith” in handling the document requests. This ruling adds to the growing controversy surrounding Willis, who is already facing scrutiny for her disqualification from the Trump case due to a prior relationship with a special prosecutor. She is currently appealing that decision to the Georgia Supreme Court.
