A 14-year-old boy tragically died after ‘injecting himself with a butterfly’ as part of an ‘online challenge.’

Davi Nunes Moreira, a teenager from Planalto, Brazil, tragically endured a harrowing seven-day battle for his life in a hospital. Initially, he told his father that he had been injured while playing, but as his condition deteriorated, Davi eventually confessed the truth about what had occurred.

Despite receiving specialized medical care, Davi’s condition continued to worsen, and doctors were unable to save him. While the exact cause of death remains undetermined, the Civil Police of Bahia have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing.

A spokesperson for the police said, “The autopsy results will provide crucial insight into the cause of death. The investigation aims to uncover the full story of what happened.”

Davi Nunes Moreira, the teenager from Planalto, Brazil, tragically lost his life after reportedly injecting a solution made from a crushed butterfly into his leg, a dangerous act linked to a disturbing social media trend. According to local reports, Davi began vomiting and limping shortly after the injection.

Upon being hospitalized, Davi confessed to medics that he had mixed a dead butterfly with water and injected the solution into his leg. He explained that he had visited a chemist to gather the necessary supplies before attempting the risky and harmful procedure.

Davi’s father discovered the syringe used for the injection under his son’s pillow while cleaning the house.

Dr. Luiz Fernando D. Relvas shared with VivaBem that the teenager’s death could have been caused by an embolism, infection, or an allergic reaction. “We cannot yet determine how Davi prepared the mixture or the size of the butterfly fragments injected into his body,” the doctor said. “There might have been air in the syringe, which could have led to an embolism.”

Investigators are also considering the possibility that Davi went into septic shock, caused by toxins from the mixture, which ultimately led to his body shutting down.

Professor Marcelo Duarte, director of São Paulo University’s Zoology Museum and a renowned butterfly expert, weighed in on the tragedy, stating (via MailOnline): “Butterflies have a complex biology, and the fluids in their bodies have not been thoroughly studied for their toxicity to humans.”

While some Brazilian media outlets have speculated that Davi might have attempted a dangerous experiment he saw online, it is reported that the teen denied this claim before his death.
