King Charles has given a ‘deeply heartbreaking’ cancer update.
At 76 years old, the King has shared deeply personal reflections on his health journey, more than 15 months after his initial diagnosis.
On April 30th, cancer survivors were welcomed to Buckingham Palace to honor the incredible contributions of community-run cancer organizations.
In a heartfelt message, Charles expressed his gratitude to those who “selflessly” dedicate themselves to providing care and comfort to the 390,000 individuals diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK.
He wrote, “Each diagnosis, each new case, is an overwhelming and often frightening experience for both the individuals and their loved ones. As someone who has experienced this firsthand, I can attest to how it can also reveal the very best of humanity.”
Reflecting on his own journey, he continued, “It has deepened my appreciation for the extraordinary work of the remarkable organizations and individuals gathered here tonight, many of whom I’ve known, visited, and supported throughout the years.”
“The darkest moments of illness, I’ve learned, can be brightened by the greatest compassion,” he added. “You have my family’s deepest admiration and gratitude.”
The King, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer following prostate surgery in January 2024, is said to be making excellent progress. His recovery is described as heading in a “very positive direction,” as evidenced by his busy and full national and international schedule.
