White House Slams Amazon For Plan To Display Tariff Cost On Every Item

The White House has slammed Amazon, claiming it would be ‘hostile’ for the company to display the tariff cost of each item.

Reports suggest that the trillion-dollar company, Amazon, may be planning a bold move that could have significant implications for its customers—by revealing exactly how much of the price increase on each product is a direct result of the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, wasted no time criticizing this potential move, calling it “a hostile and political act.” Speaking after a conversation with the former president, she stated: “I just got off the phone with President Trump about this, and it’s clear—this is a hostile and political act by Amazon.”

Leavitt even held up a printout of a Reuters article from 2021, with the headline: “Amazon partnered with China propaganda arm,” adding fuel to her criticisms.

Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon, has a history of ties to Trump, including a $1 million donation to Trump’s inaugural fund. Bezos also took a non-partisan stance during the 2020 election, announcing that his Washington Post would not endorse either Trump or Kamala Harris, explaining that newspaper endorsements “do nothing to tip the scales of an election.”

Amazon’s potential transparency on tariff costs could offer a clear message to consumers that the rising prices are directly tied to Trump’s tariffs, putting the spotlight on the economic impacts of his trade policies.

On April 2, 2025, Trump unveiled a sweeping set of tariffs, dubbing it “Liberation Day.” The new rule imposes a 10% tariff on all imports, with significantly higher rates for 60 countries deemed the “worst offenders.” Among them are Japan at 24%, South Africa at 30%, Vietnam at 46%, and China, where the rate has skyrocketed to 54%.

Trump declared: “We’ve been waiting for this day. April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America’s destiny was reclaimed, and the day we began to ‘Make America Wealthy Again.’”

He went on to lambast the long history of international trade practices, adding: “For decades, our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered by nations, near and far, from both friend and foe alike.”
