Canada’s New Prime Minister Issues Scathing Message To Donald Trump Moments After Being Elected

Canada’s new prime minister Mark Carney has issued a scathing message to Donald Trump only moments after being elected.

At 60 years old, he succeeded former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month after Trudeau’s decision to step down.

Addressing his supporters in Ottawa on April 29, he passionately declared, “Humility means acknowledging that part of government’s duty is to prepare for the worst, not simply wish for the best.”

He continued, unwavering in his stance: “As I’ve been warning for months, America may covet our land, our resources, our water, but this country is ours – and we will never let go.”

“These are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us down so that America can own us – and that will never, ever happen. But we must also face the hard truth: our world has changed fundamentally,” he declared.

This bold statement follows Trump’s push to turn Canada into the 51st state of the US, which earned Justin Trudeau the nickname ‘Governor of Canada’ among his critics.

Trump’s administration has also imposed what many have called “catastrophic” tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, aiming to hold them “accountable” for failing to stop the influx of what he called “poisonous drugs” into the US.

Goods imported from these countries now face a 25% tariff, with an additional 10% slapped on Canadian energy products.

Trump suggested that the only way for Canada to avoid these tariffs would be to become the 51st state of the US.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Please explain to Governor Trudeau of Canada that when he puts on a retaliatory tariff on the U.S., our reciprocal tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!”

Trudeau responded firmly: “Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner, ally, and friend. Meanwhile, they’re talking about positively engaging with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin – a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense.”

He continued with direct words for Trump: “It’s not often I agree with the Wall Street Journal, but Donald, even they point out that you’re a very smart guy – but this is a very dumb move.”

Trudeau made it clear: “This will never happen. We will never become the 51st state. It’s time to hit back hard and show that no one wins in a fight with Canada.”

The tariffs are tied to Trump’s accusations that Canada is a source of the growing fentanyl crisis in the US, a drug responsible for 9.8 million American deaths last year, according to Trump’s claims. He argued that Canada was allowing the drug to be sneaked into the US.

Trudeau fired back, stating, “Less than one percent of the fentanyl intercepted at the US border comes from Canada.”
