Applauding Bukele’s cooperation, Trump pointed to the rarely used Alien Enemies Act of 1798 as the legal basis for the sweeping deportations — a move he hailed as long overdue. Trump didn’t miss the opportunity to slam Democratic leadership, blaming them for enabling the crisis in the first place. Among the 261 deportees were 137 individuals removed under the Alien Enemies Act, alongside 101 Venezuelans and 21 notorious MS-13 gang members.
