Europe ‘already planning’ for ‘unthinkable’ Russian invasion if certain Trump and Putin peace deal is reached

A defense intelligence service has outlined what could happen next

While Ukraine and Russia appear to have made progress with a tentative ceasefire agreement, Europe is preparing for an ‘unthinkable’ invasion lead by Vladamir Putin.

Historic Ceasefire Talks: Zelenskyy, Putin, and Trump Strike a Deal – But Questions Remain

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to a partial ceasefire following negotiations with former U.S. President Donald Trump. However, uncertainty looms over the details—when will it take effect, and what will actually be protected?

Trump pushed for a full 30-day ceasefire, but Putin refused, agreeing only to a limited pause in hostilities. The scope of protection is still unclear—Ukraine is advocating for broader safeguards for its critical infrastructure, while Russia appears willing to spare only energy facilities, leaving railways, ports, and other vital sites potentially vulnerable.

During the call, Trump made a bold proposal: The U.S. should take control of Ukraine’s power plants to ensure their safety. A White House statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz confirmed the offer, quoting Trump as saying the U.S. could provide “unmatched expertise in electricity and utilities.” He even suggested that American ownership of these plants could be their best defense against future attacks.

As the world watches, one question remains: Is this the first step toward peace, or just another uncertain pause in a devastating war?

Ceasefire Talks Continue as U.S. Eyes Key Role in Ukraine’s Future

As negotiations unfold, a new proposal has emerged—the Trump administration is working to finalize an agreement that would grant the U.S. access to Ukraine’s critical mineral resources as partial repayment for its wartime support.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy clarified that discussions primarily revolved around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plantEurope’s largest, which has remained under Russian control since the early days of the war.

Yet, despite talks of a ceasefire, violence rages on. Russian drone strikes continue to hammer Ukraine, while Ukraine retaliates by targeting Russian military assets. The fragile state of negotiations has led officials from Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. to schedule a high-stakes meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, this Sunday (March 23), in an attempt to solidify the terms of the agreement.

While the war shows no signs of ending after three long years, Ukraine holds onto hope. However, even if Trump successfully brokers a peace deal, Europe remains on high alert, fearing an ‘unthinkable’ Russian offensive that could shatter any progress made.

European Strategists Warn: Russia May Be Preparing for the ‘Unthinkable’

Even as ceasefire talks unfold, European defense strategists fear a far more ominous scenario—one where Russia, after solidifying its gains in Ukraine, rebuilds its military and sets its sights on NATO’s eastern flank. According to a BBC report, experts believe Moscow could pose a serious threat to Baltic states and other neighboring nations within three years—or even sooner.

A February report from the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS) outlined three possible scenarios if the war in Ukraine were to halt. However, it operates under one critical assumption: Russia lacks the capacity to wage war against multiple countries simultaneously, as noted by Politico.

Yet, the findings are unsettling—within just six months, the report suggests, Russia could be capable of launching a localized conflict against a bordering nation.

With Ukraine’s future hanging in the balance, Europe is now grappling with a chilling possibility: even if peace is brokered today, the next war may already be on the horizon.

European Fears Mount: Could Russia Threaten NATO Next?

As ceasefire negotiations continue, European defense analysts are sounding the alarm—Russia may already be preparing for its next move.

According to a Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS) report, if Russia consolidates its position in Ukraine, it could rapidly escalate its military ambitions:

  • Within two years: Russia could launch a regional war in the Baltic Sea region.
  • Within five years: It could mount a full-scale attack on Europeif the U.S. does not intervene.

However, the report does not account for possible NATO defense reinforcements. Still, it warns that Russia is more likely to strike if it perceives NATO as militarily weak or politically divided.

“This is particularly true if Russia assesses that the U.S. cannot or will not support European NATO countries in a war with Russia,” the report states.

With Ukraine still under fire and NATO watching closely, the question remains: Is a larger conflict inevitable?
